A major cannabis cultivation operation has been discovered in Bangor after North Wales Police found a ‘sophisticated grow’ at the old New Look site in the city centre.
The discovery was made on Tuesday, July 1st, as part of ongoing work by the Clear, Hold, Build (CHB) team to tackle serious and organised crime in the area.
Acting on community intelligence, officers raided the disused retail premises and found a large-scale cannabis farm complete with professional-grade lighting, ventilation systems, and what police described as “enough cannabis plants to start a small forest.”
“This is not the kind of greenery we like to see in Bangor,” a police spokesperson said. “While we support homegrown businesses, this one went far beyond the legal limit.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and officers are appealing for information from the public. They are particularly interested in any unusual movements, vehicles, or individuals seen entering or leaving the premises between April and July 2025.
Information can be reported anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
PC Rylance from the CHB Team stated: “We are dedicated to targeting serious and organised crime and will continue to pursue those who exploit vulnerable persons and children for criminal gain. Anyone with information or concerns should contact us via 101, Webchat, or CrimeStoppers.”
This latest discovery follows a series of similar busts in Bangor over the past two years, which have seen multiple cannabis farms uncovered in residential and commercial buildings. Authorities believe that the city has been targeted due to the availability of large, vacant properties and access to transport links.
North Wales Police and the CHB initiative have reaffirmed their commitment to rooting out such activity and restoring community safety through continued intelligence-led operations.
