After a cold snap that brought ice and snow to Bangor, fresh weather warnings have been issued for Gwynedd, with heavy snow forecast to cause disruption later this week.
The Met Office has issued both yellow and amber snow warnings for the county as Storm Goretti approaches, bringing the risk of difficult and potentially dangerous travelling conditions from Thursday evening into Friday.
A yellow warning of snow is in place from 5pm on Thursday 8 January until 12pm on Friday 9 January, with forecasters warning that heavy snow could lead to travel delays, cancellations to rail and air services, and the possibility of some rural communities becoming cut off. Power cuts may also occur, with knock-on effects to services such as mobile phone coverage.
The warning escalates to amber from 8pm on Thursday until 9am on Friday, when heavier snowfall is considered more likely. During this period, significant disruption is expected, with travel delays on roads likely to strand vehicles and passengers. Further delays and cancellations to public transport are also anticipated, alongside an increased risk of power outages.
Residents are being urged to plan journeys carefully, check the latest forecasts, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as the weather system moves across North Wales.
