Patients and visitors at Ysbyty Gwynedd can now enjoy a more pleasant and tranquil surrounding when they attend appointments or while receiving treatment.
The area between the entrance to the Alaw Unit and the Renal Unit has been transformed thanks to a generous donation from the family of Brian Hogan, who died four years ago after a battle with cancer.
Staff from the Alaw and Renal Unit joined Peter, Terry and Colin Hogan, from local business Hogan Bros Ltd, to officially open the garden in memory of their brother, Brian. The plaque was unveiled by Brian’s son, Jamie.
Peter Hogan said his family wished to thank the staff who cared for Brian by creating a new garden outside the entrance into the units to create a friendlier environment for patients.
He said: “As a family we know the amazing care that is given by the staff at the Alaw Unit and the Renal Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
“We wanted to say thank you to them by providing them with a garden they can enjoy and also the patients and visitors.”
Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Consultant Renal Physician, Mahdi Jibani, said the staff at the Renal Unit are extremely grateful for this kind donation. He said: “We are very humbled by this kind donation from the family of Brian Hogan.
“Our patients and visitors now have a beautiful and relaxing area to walk through when they visit us at the hospital.”
Ken Jones, Secretary of Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Kidney Patients Association, added: “We are extremely grateful to the Hogan Brothers for their donation to turn this space into a friendlier surrounding for those who attend this part of the hospital.
“I have personally received treatment at the renal unit so it’s always nice to give something back to those who have helped you through difficult periods in your life.
“I’m sure many patients and visitors to the Alaw and the Renal Unit will enjoy the new surroundings as they visit the hospital.”
