Gwynedd Council have advised that a section of Bangor High Street will remain closed for ‘several days’ following a fire at the Noodle One Restaurant on Tuesday morning.
The fire, which is believed to have started in the flat above the restaurant completely destroyed the building, to the extent that it is now an unsafe structure. The neighbouring property – Morgan Clothes Shop – has also been damaged by the fire.
A statement from Gwynedd Coucnil read: “following the fire on Tuesday morning, the road between the Cathedral on Glanrafon and Lon Popty junction is closed for the time being.
“Discussions have been held with the building owners, and the Council is in the process of making the property safe under dangerous structures legislation.
“Structural engineers have been instructed to carry out a full assessment of the building and to advise on the extent of the work that will be necessary to make the building safe.
“At the moment, the exact time-frame for the work is not known, however it is expected that the necessary work will take at least a number of days.”
Signs remain in place advising motorists of diversionary routes.
The High Street remains open to pedestrians and the other shops are open as normal.
