Bangor City Football Club has been officially dissolved by Companies House following a compulsory strike-off.

The club enjoyed a successful history, winning eight Welsh Cups and three Welsh Premier League titles, and had several European encounters. They also played many years in the lower leagues of the English pyramid, reaching the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in 1984. However, the club has been inactive since withdrawing from the Cymru North League during the 2021–22 season.

Bangor City faced numerous challenges after being taken over in 2016 by Vaughan Sports Management. In 2018, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Club Licensing Appeals Body revoked the club’s Tier 1 and UEFA license for failing to meet financial criteria, which led to their demotion to the second tier of Welsh football.

In September 2019, Italian musician Domenico Serafino acquired the club, but the off-field situation did not improve. Reports emerged regarding unpaid wages for players and club officials, and the club was summoned by the FAW to a disciplinary hearing for owing nearly £53,000 in unpaid wages to players and staff. Consequently, the club was suspended from all football-related activities and ultimately withdrew from the league, having already faced points deductions for missed fixtures.

In September 2022, the club received a notice for a compulsory strike-off, marking the first step in Companies House’s process for removing a company from its register. Although this notice was later suspended, there has been no activity from the club since that time, and it has now been formally dissolved.

In response to the club’s demise and poor management, Bangor 1876 was established in 2019. The Supporters Association of Bangor City overwhelmingly voted to create a breakaway club to protect football in the city. Recently, the club members voted in favour of changing the club’s name to Bangor City 1876, which will take effect from the 2025-26 season.
