Students from Ysgol Friars in Bangor have, once more, been successful in gaining places to study at some of the most prestigious universities in the UK and abroad.

Three year 13 students have received offers to study for degrees at the University of Cambridge in September 2020, and two year 12 students have been selected by Harvard University in the USA to attend their Summer School Pre-College Programme.

Cai La Trobe-Roberts was selected to receive one of only 20 Welsh Government funded scholarships, worth over £4000, to attend the Harvard Summer School. He said “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to spend some time at one of the top universities in the world. I would never have had such an exciting opportunity otherwise.”

Arnav Agarwal said “I am really excited to have an opportunity to study quantum computing. It is one of the newest fields of computer research and Harvard is at the forefront.”

About her offer of an under-graduate place at Cambridge, Audrey Lim said “Maths is my favourite subject; I am looking forward to studying economics at Cambridge because their course is so mathematically rigorous.”

Elen Parry, also going to Cambridge next September said “I attended a residential course at Cambridge, I loved the university, the city and the buildings but most of all the medical course promises exactly what I hoped for.

“The lecturers are all very passionate about medicine and the research base is phenomenal.”

Alis Francis felt that “the opportunity to attend a residential at a top university encouraged me to put forward an application to study Geography. I’m thrilled at the possibility of studying at Cambridge next year.”
