Sunderland head coach Lee Johnson has revealed that Nathan Broadhead is set to be out of action for a minimum of three months.

The Bangor born striker suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal last week, having scored earlier in the first half against Mikael Arteta’s Gunners.

On loan from Everton, the injury comes at a cruel time for Broadhead, 23, who has netted six goals in his last six appearances to take his tally in red and white to eight.

Speaking ahead of Sunderland’s clash with Doncaster Rovers, Johnson confirmed the blow.

“It’s a bad one for Nathan.

“I would say it will be a minimum of three months, but it could be the season.”

Broadhead also missed several weeks earlier this season due to a hamstring injury, believed to be affecting the other leg.
