A temporary Endoscopy Unit will be installed at Ysbyty Gwynedd from Sunday 18 January in a move aimed at significantly reducing waiting times for vital diagnostic procedures.

The unit, which will be located in the hospital’s maternity car park, is expected to remain in place for approximately five months. Health officials say the additional facility will boost capacity and allow more than 1,500 patients to undergo endoscopy procedures during this period, helping to address long-standing waiting lists and improve access to timely investigations.

The decision to site the unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd was taken to ensure patient safety and to allow a wider range of endoscopy procedures to be carried out. Officials explained that placing the unit on a non-acute site would have restricted the types of procedures available, reducing the overall benefit to patients.

However, the move will result in a temporary reduction in parking spaces in the maternity car park. Hospital management acknowledged the inconvenience this may cause for patients, staff and visitors, and confirmed that work is underway to identify alternative parking arrangements elsewhere on the site.

Members of the public are being encouraged to consider alternative transport options where possible, or to allow extra time when travelling to the hospital to ensure they can find parking ahead of appointments.

Hospital leaders apologised for any disruption caused and thanked patients, visitors and staff for their patience and understanding, stressing that the temporary measures are an important step toward improving access to care for those waiting for diagnostic tests.
