Six members of staff from Morrisons in Bangor are climbing Snowdon every Friday for a month to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Due to Covid-19 they were not able to commemorate Remembrance Sunday as we would usually d, so, Alice, Bernadette, Siwan, Gareth, Jay and Brandon set themselves the challenge to walking up Snowdon, not just once, but every Friday for a month to raise money for the Royal British Legion and raising awareness for those who fell before us.

The aim was to raise £500 for the Legion and with just one walk left this Friday, the group are just £50 off their target.

The group began their challenge at the beginning of November, as mountain enthusiasts they decided that with this year being different to the normal; and covid-19 restrictions causing the Armistice commemorations to be postponed, that they’d like to raise money for the Royal British Legion in a different way.

With this good cause in mind, they made a pledge to walk up Snowdon every Friday for an entire month. Being led by Gareth; an experienced mountain climber, they have just one Friday left to complete. When the weather has been at its most challenging (when many of us would opt to stay in bed!) they have still pulled on those walking boots and made it to the top.

The last Snowdon walk will take place this Friday, with heavy snow forecast for the top of the 1,085m Welsh mountain.
