North Wales Police Rural Crime Unit and the RSPCA rescued hundreds of horses and other animals from “awful conditions” in a joint operation on Tuesday 1st September.
Over 100 horses were rescued, unfortunately two had to be put down after police and RSPCA officers visited a property in Gwynedd. Over 100 birds and rabbits described as being in “terrible condition” were also removed from the property.
Police described the scenes as “truly harrowing” for all of the team and a case will be taken against the person responsible.
The Police Rural Crime Team tweeted: “Over 100 were horses removed (2 euthanized), 122 poultry and rabbits taken all in terrible condition. One of the team was assaulted during the operation, so one person arrested.”
Rural Crime Team manager Rob Taylor said: “To see animals being kept in such awful conditions is appalling and its shocking to have to remove over 100 horses for their welfare as well as a mixture of other animals. Also one of my officers was assaulted during the operation, this a very sad day.”
