A potential student hall development based on land at the former Railway Institute in Bangor is to be sold by auction next month.

The Bangor Railway Institute was demolished in 2016 despite a local campaign to save the site. It cleared the way for a development of student properties on the site.

Bluebell Real Estate had previously placed the scheme on the market for offers around £895,000 but the land remains unsold.

Planning Permission for 57 Bed Student Housing Accommodation has been granted and the site will be up for auction on 17th September with agents Allsops, with a Guide Price pf £275,000. The agents also said the site has potential for ‘alternative uses/development’ subject to consents.

The Railway Institute opened in 1898, originally used for recreational and educational facilities by railway employees, in recent years it became a popular community hub used by local residents for events, bingo nights and children’s birthday parties.
