The campaign to ‘Light up Christmas’ 2021 on Garth Pier in Bangor has officially begun.

In partnership with Bangor City Council, Awyr Las, the North Wales NHS Charity, is arranging a stunning light display on Bangor’s iconic Pier for a second year running.

The 2,000 lights will be turned on at the Pier on Friday 10th December during a special ‘Light Up Christmas’ event with food, music, entertainment and projection display featuring all the photos of those who are celebrated through the Light up Christmas 2021 campaign.

Each light represents a tribute to a special person, made in memory, to give thanks or to celebrate. Anybody wishing to dedicate a light can do so through the Awyr Las website here:  www.lightupchristmas.wales/

Your donation will support the hospital ward or community healthcare service that’s closest to your heart. Three specific funds will also benefit from the money raised – Tîm Irfon at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ty Croeso at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Heddfan Unit at Ysbyty Maelor Wrecsam.

Kirsty Thomson, Head of Fundraising at Awyr Las said: “This campaign wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our headline sponsor – Watkin Property Ventures – and our other amazing sponsors too – Imtech Engineering Services/Vinci Construction Ltd, Castle Green Homes, Varcity Living and Bangor University. Their support will mean that all the money raised through ‘Light Up Christmas’ will go straight to supporting patients and their families right here in North Wales.”

Light up Christmas 2021

Awyr Las invites you to donate and dedicate a light on Bangor Pier to celebrate and remember your loved ones this Christmas.

Light up Christmas is a magical event combining digital tributes and a real life display of 2,000 lights on Bangor’s beautiful Garth Pier.

In 2020, the inaugural year, the stunning display on the iconic Bangor landmark helped hundreds of people across North Wales and beyond to fondly remember absent loved ones, and celebrate those around us who fill the world with light. This year, Light up Christmas is back – and it promises to be bigger, brighter, and better than ever.

Make your tribute today and your light will shine bright as part of a stunning installation on Bangor’s iconic Garth Pier throughout December. Your tribute will appear on the digital “Wall of Lights” and could be included in a travelling projector show. All donations will benefit patients receiving care in hospitals and our local communities.
