An exhibition celebrating 125 years of Bangor’s Garth Pier is to open for more than two months at Storiel art gallery.
The Friends of Bangor Pier group, along with Bangor City Council, will be presenting the exhibition, running from 26 March until 4 June, with a focus on history and stories from the area.
Entry to the exhibition is free, with a donation box at the door.
Also featured is an original film reel by Monster Films, and original photography from Anglesey Drone Media Services’ Adam Milton-Barker, as well as artwork from schools from across the region.
Bangor mayor, Councillor Owen Hurcum, said: “Bangor Pier has been a huge part of our city for well over a century and I know it is close to all our hearts.
“It is so exciting to have been able to put together this exhibition celebrating the stories made over the last 125 years on this icon of Bangor.”
Avril Wayte, chair of Friends of Bangor Garth Pier, added: “We are delighted to be bringing to life 125 years of history of Bangor’s most iconic structure – Garth Pier.
“Organised jointly by Bangor City Council and Friends of Bangor Garth Pier, the exhibition at Storiel promises to be both a vibrant exhibition and a celebration of the pier and its people.”
The pier turned 125 in 2021, having been opened on May 14, 1896, by Lord Penrhyn. Although celebrations were limited at the time because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
STORIEL is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11.00am – 5pm. Call 01248 353 368 or visit www.storiel.cymru
