Pedestrians and dog walkers have been warned to be careful after numerous discarded needles and syringes were found in woodland on a popular Bangor footpath.
The footpath at the top end of Bangor High Street, near Lidls and St John’s Methodist church, leads towards Minffordd and is regularly used dog walkers.
Street enforcement officers who visited the site to clear the area encountered a drug user at the site, and plan to return to the clear the site with a police officer.
Reporting Drug related litter
Drug related litter, the term used for the waste that some drug users leave after injecting, usually comprises of needles and syringes, which can put people and animals at risk of injury and also carry the risk of infection such as hepatitis and HIV.
- DO NOT touch the equipment
- DO NOT attempt to pick up or move needles or syringes
- CALL Gwynedd Council immediately on 01766 771000. The Council will either collect the litter or advise you what to do next.
What to do in the event of an injury by a needle?
- DON’T panic
- DO NOT suck the wound
- Encourage it to bleed
- Put under a constantly running cold tap for 2 minutes
- Cover the wound with a plaster or dressing
- Seek medical help immediately
- Remember that the risk of infection from a discarded needle is low, but you do need to be seen by a medic.
