An eagle-eyed beachcomber on Anglesey has now found two tags from a Bangor University research project dating back to the 1970s.

Incredibly, although perhaps unsurprisingly as they are plastic, these two tags have survived 50 years.

The original project was set up by senior academics Jimmy and Margaret Dodd, to determine the population structure and dispersion/migration of lesser-spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula).

Tags were attached to the fish and members of the public encouraged to return any they found washed up.

A post on the Biological Sciences at Bangor University Facebook page said: “Great find though sadly (currently) no reward.

“If you find one of our tags let us know, perhaps we could re-instate a reward! (and clear the beach of the plastic) Still lots of research going on here, we are so ideally placed of course.”
