There were happy faces at schools in Bangor this morning as pupils received their A level results.
Results for A levels, AS, the Welsh Baccalaureate and vocational qualifications were released on Tuesday morning.
The results across Wales are set to be higher than pre-pandemic levels following the cancellation of normal exams due to the pandemic, with grades based on teacher assessment.
Ysgol Tryfan Headteacher Arwyn Williams said: “We are delighted with the success of our pupils once again this year. The cohort that have completed Year 13 this year have shown exceptional tenacity and perseverance to succeed in their courses despite the circumstances that have affected the last two school years.
“We thank them for their contribution to the school and wish each and every of them all the very best in the next stage of their lives”.
Neil Foden, headteacher at Ysgol Friars in Bangor, has spoken about the difficulties faced by pupils this year.
He said: “We’ve been really please with the results achieved this year. It’s been a very difficult time for the school and obviously for the pupils.
“This cohort of students that have just finished their A levels have probably ben the worse affected, because the whole of the last two academic years have been affected by Covid.
“The fact that so many students have done so well is a tribute to their hard work and the hard work of the teachers who’ve supported them.
“It’s been great this morning to see so many happy faces with youngsters knowing they’ve got places at university and places on the courses they want, and the door is open for the careers they have chosen.”
