Despite the difficulties of running a family business during the coronavirus lockdown, the Garden Cantonese Restaurant in Bangor have donated over 200 meals to staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd since the lockdown began.
The family-run eatery, which opened in 1983, closed the restaurant part of the business in March after the Welsh Government ordered the closure of pubs, clubs, restaurants and other businesses in Wales to try to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Since lockdown the award winning business have offered a takeaway and home delivery service to customers, but they wanted to say ‘Thank you’ to all the frontline NHS staff.
Spokesperson for the Garden Cantonese Restaurant said: “Although small, Bangor has a close-knit and good community. When the lockdown was announced, we wanted to help out the community as much as we could.
“Since lockdown, we have donated freshly cooked, hot meals to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital staff every Tuesday to Saturday. To date, we have delivered over 210 meals to feed our heroes
“We just want to say a massive thank you to all NHS staff who have continued working to keep us all safe and well. We are truly grateful for your help during this difficult and pressured time.
“And we couldn’t have done it without all the locals who have supported our family business through this difficult time and kept our kitchen open so that we can help the NHS. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, positivity and praise – it has been the fuel to keep us going.”
The restaurant also thanked the following people who have generously donated supplies so their chefs can continue to work their ‘magic in the kitchen.’
Richard from Fu’s Chinese restaurant who had donated bags of onions, cashew nuts and eggs that go in your yummy special fried rice!
Nicholas Edmond from Booker Llandudno who kindly donated more eggs and hot food containers and delivery drivers ‘Liv & Liam’ who delivered the hot food to the hospital.
