Bangor University and Pontio will be lit up with the colours of the rainbow tonight, to thank the NHS and as a symbol of hope during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The light up will coincide with the weekly ‘Clap For Our Carers‘ event, at 8pm on Thursday, when the public show their appreciation for the NHS and key workers by clapping and cheering form their homes.
The University’s sports and leisure facility at Canolfan Brailsford has been converted into a temporary hospital to provide beds for patients with COVID-19 symptoms.
Around 250 additional beds will now be made available to the NHS as part of the partnership between the University and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
The hospital will be used as a ‘step down’ site, for patients on their way to recovery from Covid-19, who will not need ventilation or breathing apparatus, but still need some nursing care.
A further 600 beds will be available in temporary hospitals at Venue Cymru in Llandudno and Deeside Leisure Centre will be the third location of a temporary hospital to treat North Wales residents with symptoms of COVID-19.
Accommodation belonging to the University, recently vacated by students, will be used by health care staff during the crisis.
In line with government advice Bangor University have requested that the public stay at home and don’t attend this event, but appreciate the official photos shared on social media.
