Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor will be holding its first Theatres Open Day on Saturday, 12 October between 10am – 2pm.

Visitors will have the chance to tour the theatre department, meet the team to find out how they work together and receive career advice.

There will also be small work shops during the event where members of the public will be able to get their hands on some of the equipment the team use and find out how they are used in surgery.

There will be a live simulation of an operation in a real operating theatre, under live conditions.

Presentations delivered by:

Mr Phillip Moore – Consultant Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon
Mr Moore, who has recently been honoured by the Gorsedd of Bards at the National Eisteddfod for his commitment to learning the Welsh language, will be discussing his career to date and offering advice to those who wish to follow a similar career path.

Mr Koldo Azurza – Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr Azurza will be discussing his role within theatres and the costs involved with orthopaedic procedures, the financial costs of missed appointments and the implications on the service.

Dr Carsten Eickmann – Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Eickmann will be explaining the role of the anaesthetist, and the vital job that they have. He will also discuss the difficulties faced by the role, but also the rewards.

Stuart Metcalfe – Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)
Mr Metcalfe will be providing an insight into the role of the ODP and how it has developed over time to become a vital part of the theatre team. He will also be providing career advice on how to become an ODP.

Paul Castleman – Theatre Assistant
Paul will be talking about the new role of the Theatre Assistant – an amalgamation of the theatre porter and HCSW.

The event is Free and open to anyone over 16-years-old, registration is required.
