A Doctor working at Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Emergency Department has been named as a contestant in this year’s Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, which returns to Channel 4 on Sunday 9th September at 9pm.
Dr Saleyha Ahsan, who has worked as an Ysbyty Gwynedd Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine Clinical Fellow since October 2016, is known for her work on BBC Two’s ‘Trust Me I’m A Doctor’ and is also a former British Army Captain having served in Bosnia. Dr Saleyha also works as a humanitarian doctor in conflict zones and is passionate about the targeting of healthcare in war.
In Trust Me I’m a Doctor, Dr Saleyha shares her medical experience by giving simple lifesaving tips and revealing the red flag symptoms that can help us spot dangerous medical conditions. She has also investigated whether we can change our gut bacteria for the better, and discovered that cheaper unbranded painkillers can be just as good as expensive branded ones.
The ten contestants will be left on the Island, which is on the coast of Panama, Central America, with just the clothes they’re wearing, a few knives and some water, and will spend a month foraging for food and trying to stay alive.
The other celebrities include Olympic rowing champion James Cracknell, former EastEnders and Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp and Jo Wood, former wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.
