After a hugely successful inaugural event, Bangor Food Festival returns for its 2nd year on Sunday 29 September 2019, on Bangor High Street, 9am – 5.30pm.
The High Street will be full of stalls showcasing the best local Welsh produce, National and International Street Food, along with locally produced beers, ciders and spirits and a live music stage providing entertainment throughout the day.
70+ stalls will be set up on Bangor High Street and in the Deiniol Shopping Centre, with the Bar Area & Live Music Stage at Tan-Y-Fynwent (adjacent to the main bus stops, near the High Street).
Several cookery demonstrations will be taking place throughout the day in the Deiniol Centre – not to be missed!
The festival promises to be foodie heaven, with everything from pizza, seafood, hog roast, pies and sausages, burgers, vegetarian and vegan food through to posh puds, fudge, sweets and cheese cakes, there really is something for everyone.
Bars & Live Music
The Bar area and Live Music Stage will be based at Tan-Y-Fynwent (adjacent to the main bus stops, near Bangor High Street). Enjoy local Beers, Cider, Pimm’s, Gin & Cocktails while enjoying the live entertainment.

Deiniol Shopping Centre
There will be a number of stalls, including craft stalls, in the Deiniol Shopping Centre, make sure you call in to see some fantastic local crafts which make beautiful gifts, it’s never too early to start shopping for Christmas!

Meet The Chefs
For the first time Bangor Food Festival will be holding live cookery demonstrations – with three amazing chefs taking part and aimed at being informative and fun, you can watch, learn and be inspired!
The demos will take place in the Deiniol Shopping centre and are Free to attend – Not to be missed!
11am – Andrew Tabberner – Head Chef & owner of the Gaerwen Arms, Anglesey
Andrew trained at University College Birmingham and achieved a national diploma level 3 in professional cookery. He then went on to work for Will Holland at La Becasse and at Coast Restaurant.
In 2015, Andrew won Junior chef of Wales. This then led to him joining the loft restaurant at The Bull Beaumaris in November 2015.
In October 2016, he took over as Head Chef and impressively achieved two AA rosettes by January 2017. In June 2018 Andrew became Executive Head chef of the Bull Beaumaris, looking after both of the restaurants the hotel.
The Loft Restaurant was voted 49th best UK restaurant by Hardens Square meal 2017.
July this year Andrew along side business partner and good friend Oli Thompson opened their first restaurant ‘The Gaerwen Arms’ on Anglesey
Andrew trained to become a Bee Keeper in 2016 and was included in the Caterers ‘menu watch’ in 2017.
Andrew is proud to change his whole menu on the first of every month, keeping it as seasonal as possible. He is proud to use as many suppliers on the island of Anglesey as possible.
12.30pm -1.15pm – Highly talented chef Rita Scalas, originally from Sardinia, spent many years honing her knowledge of Italy’s traditional cuisine.
Rita is passionate about creating authentic Italian fare, so cheese, herbs and spices are regularly imported from Italy, which blend perfectly with quality local Welsh meat and vegetables.
The former head chef at the popular Osteria Italian Restaurant in Caernarfon, Rita’s talent is her ability to transform simple ingredients into memorable dishes.
Rita recently opened her own restaurant, based at Patrick’s Bar in upper Bangor. She said: “Rita’s is the new place in Bangor where you can eat fresh homemade food.
“We make all our food from scratch with fresh ingredients locally sourced or imported from Italy, because our food is either authentic Italian or with an hint of Italian spirit.
“I’m an Italian chef living in North Wales, where I have worked for 5 years and I’ve always tried to bring with me the real taste of Italy.
“I’m looking forward to seeing you soon, and give you an amazing Italian Experience.”
Rita will be making a traditional Sardinian pasta called “Malloreddus” served with a traditional sausage sauce. She will also be offering a taste of her garlic bread, which is already gaining a reputation as the best garlic bread outside of Italy!
2pm – Karen White is an American chef and food blogger, now living and working in Chester she will be cooking Welsh Mutton chops and helped by her children, who are both amazing cooks, and they will be cooking homemade Pitta Bread and a glorious cous cous salad.
Karen not only has a lifelong passion for cooking local, seasonal food, but most importantly cooking nutritious food for children they enjoy.
Karen learnt her trade working with Great British Food Festival Chef Chris Burt in Shrewsbury, while also working part time as a fishmonger in Hoole. For 5 years now Karen has opened her house for International students from all over the world.
More recently Karen has taken on the role as Head Chef at local Primary school, where she can share her knowledge and passion for food.
Parking & Road Closures
Usual car parking charges apply in the pay and display car parks although the Deiniol Shopping Centre offer free parking on Sunday.
Various roads around Bangor city centre will be closed between 7am and 7pm on Sunday 29 September due to the event. Signs will be in place with the relevant information.
