North Wales Fire Service have issued a warning after a huge mountain fire at Rachub near Bethesda, which they believe was started deliberately.

Fire crews were called to the fire on Sunday evening, 7 March, after the fire took hold on the mountain at around 7pm.

The fire involved around 500 square metres of bracken and gorse, with crews only able to monitor the blaze rather than fight the flames due to its location.

One crew from Bangor kept watch over the fire last night, which could be seen from miles around.

A statement from North Wales Fire Service said: “The mountainside fire in Rachub, Gwynedd last night affected around 500 sqm of bracken and gorse and is thought to have been started deliberately.

“A criminal record is hard to shake – DON’T start deliberate fires. Help stop deliberate fires.”
