Two staff members from the canteen at Ysgol Friars in Bangor, have now tested positive for Coronavirus.

The canteen facility was closed at the school on Monday, 7 September, after a member of the catering staff received a positive Coronavirus test last weekend.

As a precautionary measure, all the kitchen staff have been advised to stay home and to arrange a Covid-19 test. The school canteen has been temporarily closed so that a deep-clean can be carried out with pupils asked to bring packed-lunches for the time being.

Ysgol Friars is working closely with Gwynedd Council’s Education Department and Health, Safety and Wellbeing team to ensure that all appropriate measures are in place to protect pupils, staff and the wider community.

Statement from Ysgol Friars deputy headteacher Mr D Healy today, Friday 11 September, said: “In addition to the original case we have had seven negative cases, one positive and three still awaiting a result.

“I have also managed to speak to a representative of track and trace and they tell me that both positives were contracted outside school and so it seems our control measures in the kitchen have worked.”

The school remains open for pupils. In the meantime, anybody who is concerned that they or a member of their family may have Coronavirus symptoms should request a test immediately. Information about how to do so is available from https://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test
