The owners of the Noodle One Restaurant in Bangor, which was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning, have said their “hearts are broken and our life changed forever.”

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire just before 3am this morning and spent several hours tackling the blaze, which is thought to have to started in the flat above the popular Japanese and South East Asian Noodle bar.

Three appliances attended the scene and an aerial ladder was also in use. Part of Bangor High Street, between the Cathedral and Varsity Pub remained closed all day, as work continued to secure the damaged building. There are no reports of any injuries as a result of the fire.

Clothing Shop Morgan, which is next to Noodle One, is also thought to be extensively damaged by the fire.

An emotional post on the Noodle One Facebook Page read: “Iwan and I would like to thank the countless people who have shown us so much love and support today. The sympathy and well wishes have been overwhelming in quantity, sorely needed and greatly appreciated!

“We haven’t had chance to read them all yet, but will be doing so over the next couple of days. We truly are touched by the support of our friends, family, staff both current and old, and our customers who have flocked to our side in our hour of need.

“Sadly the building is almost completely destroyed behind the front facade, is structurally unsafe and has been condemned It appears the fire may have been caused by a faulty tumble dryer however the building is not safe enough yet for a full investigation.

“We believe it may be some time (possibly days!) until the road will be open outside the restaurant. We do not own the building and so are not able to give authorisation to erect the necessary scaffolding to secure the building until our landlord can be contacted to give his permission, there is nothing we can do to make the building structurally safe and so the immediate area around the building will be cordoned off until our landlord can be contacted by the council.

“We are so sorry to all our staff and surrounding businesses who have been affected by this, not least our neighbours and friends at the clothing shop next door, Morgan’s, who have sadly lost everything too due the extensive smoke and water damaged caused by our fire. We are truly sorry.

“It is a very sad end to what has been an amazing 8 years noodling!”
