A planning application has been made to convert the former Mirage Nightclub in Bangor into 8 retail units on the ground floor and 4 self-contained flats on the floors above.

The Nightclub which was formerly known as ‘Joop’ and ‘Barrels’ closed down in 2016, under the plans the ground floor of the club would be converted into small business start-up kiosks, with private flats to the first & second floors.

The planning application states that the development would bring an empty building back into back into use whilst enhancing the economic contribution and entertainment for the local people. There are no plans to make any changes to the front of the building, only to create a level access opening for the small business units.

The scheme plans to return a building that has been vacant from some time into a development that will benefit the Local Community by ‘modestly’ increasing the range of competition in the area and in turn increase the economic activity in Bangor which is desperately needed at this economic downturn.

The application concludes that not only will the development bring an unused and vacant building back to use but will also provide local employment.
