North Wales Police have seized a number of vehicles on the roads between Llangefni and Bangor due to having no insurance.

Routine patrols of the area in the last few days, by the Roads Policing Unit, have seen five vehicles being stopped at the roadside in the space of 48 hours.

The latest seizure saw a man being stopped in the Bangor area on Thursday evening, where he was found to be an unsupervised learner driver with no insurance. His vehicle was seized and the driver will now be summonsed to appear before court.

PC Leigh McCann from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Uninsured vehicles are a real danger on our roads, and as a force we are seizing uninsured vehicles every day in order to make our roads safer for everyone.

“Although the majority of drivers in North Wales are law-abiding, it is alarming that many choose to break the law, putting the lives of others at risk.

“We regularly see that many uninsured drivers use their vehicles to facilitate their illegal activities and denying them the use of the roads makes it harder for them to commit crime.

“We will use all available powers to seize illegal vehicles and remove them from the roads. The consequences for them can be anything from a fine, points on their licence and having their car crushed.

He added: “The public can be reassured that we will not tolerate crime on our roads therefore if you suspect an illegal driver please contact us.”

North Wales Police work closely with other agencies such as the Motor Insurance Bureau and the DVLA to target illegal drivers.

Since 1st January 2017 North Wales Police have seized 981 vehicles off the roads of North Wales under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.
