Gwynedd Council have applied for planning permission to demolish the former Ysgol Babanod Coed Mawr in Bangor and clear the site ready for future redevelopment.
The school closed as part of a £12.7 million investment in primary education in Bangor, which has seen the construction of the new 420 pupil Ysgol y Garnedd and the refurbishment of Ysgol y Faenol in Penrhosgarnedd, which will increase the primary school’s capacity from 186 to 315 pupils.
Ysgol Babanod Coed Mawr opened in the late 1960’s, catering for infant children between the ages of 4 and 7. Initially opening as an English language school and later becoming bilingual.
Ysgol Glanadda primary school also closed in 2020 as part of the reorganisation of schools in the Bangor area.
