Penrhyn Castle in Bangor is set to play host to the frightfully fun and family friendly Dark Run event this autumn.
Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices will be back at the Bangor estate on Saturday October 17th from 6pm with their fancy dress 3k run, walk or dance around the grounds. Plus, there’s even a 1.5k even for little legs.
Special guests at the event will be members of the Roberts family from Anglesey, whose son Callum attends the Conwy hospice for respite stays and therapy sessions.
Callum and twin brother Tyler were born prematurely at 29 weeks. Devastatingly, Tyler was stillborn.
Mother, Carrie who will be there on the night with Callum’s sisters Kiera and Chloe, shared: “Callum was diagnosed with a heart condition from birth.
“He is five years old now and has been visiting the hospice for two years.
“At first, I thought I could do it all on my own as he requires constant care. I couldn’t.
“I realised I wasn’t coping, so went to a wellbeing event where I met Nia from Tŷ Gobaith.
“Nia put me at ease and told me what Tŷ Gobaith was all about. We went through all the care Callum needed – and she understood everything. It was only then I knew I would be able to let Callum go for respite care.
“He absolutely loves it at Tŷ Gobaith, he’s just living his life to the best. He has a smile that makes you melt and these big sparkly eyes that you just get lost in.”
With neon clothing and Halloween costumes strongly encouraged, the evening is always a feast for the eyes and a great way to get your lungs pumping and make memories to last a lifetime.
Starting with an energetic group warm-up, the race sets off on a well-lit course around the beautiful estate and through the castle grounds to a soundtrack of motivational music.
Sponsored by Menai Heating, all competitors will be given their own flashing glowstick to hold and really light up the night.
Event organiser, Bekki Moreland, said: “We’re delighted to be back at Penrhyn Castle for a real highlight of our year.
“Our incredible supporters in North Wales made last year so special and raised a fantastic sum.
“Come and join us for a night to remember and show your support for local children and families living with a life-threatening condition.”
It costs just £15 for adults and £10 for under 16s with all entrants receiving a goody bag and bespoke glow in the dark medal for their efforts and fundraising.
