Pontio’s Cinema has been closed since the 31st of August, and following a refurbishment, will reopen tonight, Friday 18 September, with a screening of The End of Oak Street. The refurbishment has been possible through funding by Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government.
The work has been completed over a period of two weeks, with thanks to Ferco System Seatings LTD and Mark Morris Flooring Contractors for their work refurbishing our chairs and carpets in the space, as well as Lewington & Templer and Owen & Palmer LTD. The refurbishment will provide a better customer experience for our audiences who come to enjoy films. The old cinema seats are being given a new lease of life in another building in Bangor University.
The cinema will re-open with a full programme of films over the coming months, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our customers back for a jam-packed Autumn of screenings. Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll have a variety of films including The Dog Stars, Bitter Christmas, Shaun The Sheep: The Beast of Mossy and Sense and Sensibility as well as screenings to celebrate 130 years of Welsh cinema including a special screening of Twin Town with a Q&A session with director Kevin Allen and actor Llŷr Ifans.

This development will give a brilliant cinematic experience for the communities of Bangor and the surrounding area, as well as visitors to the area. The locally made films, Effi o Blaenau and Madfabulous, have reflected the demand for locally made Welsh films and stories, creating momentum for the sector locally which we’re proud to be a part of.”
