Watkin Property Ventures is marking Mental Health Awareness Week with a renewed commitment to supporting mental health and wellbeing initiatives across communities in north-west Wales and for its own staff.
Throughout May, the organisation has brought staff together for a company-wide Step Challenge, encouraging colleagues to walk up to 25,000 steps per day. The initiative aims to promote physical wellbeing while raising awareness and support for their staff charity of the year, Papyrus UK which is dedicated to preventing suicide in young people.
Mental health support remains a year-round priority for Watkin Property Ventures, with many staff members having personal or close experience of mental health challenges. The company says its commitment extends far beyond awareness campaigns, forming part of its wider culture and community engagement work.
This year’s partnership with Papyrus has also been inspired by the work of 3 Dads Walking – three fathers who each lost a daughter to suicide and now campaign to encourage open conversations around mental health. Their message has resonated strongly within the organisation, reinforcing the importance on breaking stigma and creating environments where people feel able to seek help.
Alongside its charity partnerships, Watkin Property Ventures continues to invest in community-based projects that support mental wellbeing, including grassroots sport and education projects across the Bangor area. The company works with local sports clubs to help improve both physical and mental health, while its work with schools focuses on fostering safe, supportive environments for young people.
Mark Watkin-Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Watkin Property Ventures said: “Mental Health Awareness Week is an important moment to reflect, but for us this is a year-round commitment. Many of our team have been personally affected by mental health challenges, and we believe it’s vital to keep this conversation open.
“We’re proud to support initiatives that make a genuine difference, whether through sport, education, or charities like Papyrus. Our hope is that by working together, we can help reduce stigma and encourage more people to speak up and seek support when they need it.”
As awareness grows around the importance of mental wellbeing, Watkin Property Ventures hopes its work will continue to encourage open conversations and strengthen support within local communities and the company.
