A large quantity of nitrous oxide has been taken off the streets of Bangor following proactive police work during a routine patrol.

Officers from Rota 1 became suspicious of two males acting in unusual circumstances late last night. Their swift intervention led to the arrest of two individuals, aged 17 and 20, on suspicion of drug supply offences and burglary.

Further enquiries led officers to a secure container, where a significant quantity of nitrous oxide—commonly known as laughing gas—was recovered, along with a sum of cash.

Police say the scale of the find highlights ongoing concerns around the illegal supply and misuse of the substance, which has increasingly been linked to anti-social behaviour and wider criminal activity.

District Inspector Jamie Owens described the seizure as “a significant haul” and “far from a laughing matter,” praising officers for their proactive work in helping keep Bangor safe.

Enquiries are ongoing.
