21 groups and charities in north Wales have been awarded a share of over £1 million to bring communities together, thanks to National Lottery players. More than half of these are based in Gwynedd and Anglesey.

The funding will support a great variety of projects, including indoor and outdoor leisure activities, making community hubs more energy efficient, a Welsh language theatre production for young people, and activities for children and families in the National Eisteddfod.

In Bangor, Partneriaeth Maesgeirchen Partnership will use its £9,029 to bring people from different cultural backgrounds together in a music and food event which will be held in the city centre on 19 August. They will also be organising creative art and music sessions leading up to the main event.

Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru, which will be held this year in Boduan near Pwllheli, will provide activities for children based on local tradition and culture with its £10,000 National Lottery grant. It will be a safe space for families to come together to play, create and discover.

Pwyllgor Pentra Deiniolen is working towards making the village a better place to live for the locals with its £10,000. The grant will create opportunities to hold events in the local area, providing children, young people, and adults alike with a space to visit, socialise and take part in events and activities held by local people, for local people.

Lyndsey Vaughan Pleming, Chair of Pwyllgor Pentra Deiniolen said: “The committee is extremely proud to receive this grant from The National Lottery Community Fund. It will be a big boost for us to develop services and resources that are really needed here in the village of Deiniolen. The area’s most valuable resource is the people, and together we can ‘Wake up Deiniolen’ – and ensure the best for the people who live here now and for future generations.”

The Caernarfon area is also benefitting from National Lottery funding. Llety Arall Cyf has received £9,980 to install batteries that will help to use solar energy more efficiently, making the community facility more environmentally friendly and sustainable, whilst Ysgol Rhosgadfan nearby will purchase a cabin to hold activities to support the wellbeing of the whole community with a £10,000 grant.

Conwy Connect for Learning Disabilities will hold a series of outdoor based activities for people with learning disabilities, families and carers in Gwynedd with its £10,000, to expand on the success of their activities in Conwy for over 25 years.

Meanwhile on Anglesey, Cwmni Theatr Eleth will put on a Welsh language production of the Joseph show with a cast made up of local, young people with its £10,000 grant, and Clwb Gwawr Llanddaniel Fab were successful in their application for £1,840 to extend their provision and provide regular Welsh language activities to support the wellbeing of the local community.

Also in Anglesey, Bryngwran Cymunedol Ltd will use its £9,920 to install solar panels and batteries on part of the Iorwerth Arms community pub which hosts a space for community events and services, whilst Digartref Cyf will develop the Holyhead Enterprise Centre (HEC) as a homeless hub for rural Anglesey with its £50,000 National Lottery funding. The current day centre will move to a newly refurbished building with ample parking and deliver additional services to compliment the current provision.

Last but not least, a grant of £110,000 will enable Age Cymru Gwynedd a Môn to continue supporting people aged over 50 with information and advice that will alleviate the negative impacts the cost-of-living crisis is having on them, e.g. to access allowances, pension credits and schemes that will help reduce household energy costs. The grant will also help to sustain the range of services they offer to maintain the wellbeing of the community and develop relevant programmes of activity to support this.
