Catrin Jones and Hannah Powell have celebrated medal success representing Wales at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Samoa.
A Psychology Student at Bangor University, Catrin smashed her personal best as she dominated her rivals to win the Commonwealth Junior title.
Already having happy memories of competing in Samoa and winning the Commonwealth Youth Games title in 2015, the 20-year-old achieved a snatch of 77kg, clean and jerk of 96kg for a total of 173kg to secure the gold medal.
Hannah Powell, who works at Bangor University, also added to Welsh medal joy with a silver medal in the senior competition, after setting new personal bests, a snatch of 64kg, clean and jerk of 84kg and a total of 148kg in the 45kg category.
The 26-year-old had been in record breaking form all season and winning a medal at a high-quality Commonwealth Championships.
The duo’s success has showed they will both be podium contenders representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022.
