A Teaching Assistant at Ysgol Friars in Bangor has tested positive for coronavirus, the school has confirmed.
In September two members of the catering staff at the school tested positive for the virus, which resulted in the school’s canteen facilities being closed of two weeks. The Track & Trace system identified the staff had contracted the virus outside of the school.
In an email to parents this afternoon, Thursday 1st October, Headteacher Mr Neil Foden said: “We learned this morning that one of our non-teaching staff has tested positive for Covid-19. The member of staff is currently self-isolating. The role involves working with a small, specified group of learners and we were able to quickly identify those pupils who would have been contacts and arrange for them to go home.
“We have no evidence that the virus was contracted in school or that any of our pupils has tested positive but we remain vigilant.
“We are following Public Health Wales advice and parents have been informed that the pupils we identified will be required to self-isolate for 14 days as a precautionary measure. The rest of the school remains open and pupils are advised to continue attending school, unless they show any symptoms of coronavirus.
“Those families whose children have been asked to self-isolate are also advised to look out for any symptoms of the virus, including:
- a new continuous cough
- a high temperature
- loss of or change to sense of smell or taste
“Anyone who develops any Coronavirus symptoms should self-isolate and immediately request a test by calling 119 or online by visiting https://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test “
