A woman who’s grandfather was born in Bangor before emigrating to Australia, is asking for help tracing her family tree.

Jo Hutchins is tracing her family tree and has traced her grandfather, William Alun Jones, who was born in Bangor on 10th November 1936, she is now trying to search records for his father. William and his wife Carole emigrated out to Australia when their son Gareth (Jo‘s father) was just 4 years old.

Jo, who still lives in Australia, explains: “My grandparents, William and Carole Jones emigrated out to Australia when my father (Gareth Jones) was 4 years old. On William’s birth and death certificate it says his father is unknown.

“William’s mother is Margaret Williams or could be Jones as Jones is the last name listed on William’s birth and death certificate. Margaret’s mother is Annie Williams or Jones believed to not been married but I’m not sure.

“Annie worked on a farm and there was talk that the farmers son was William’s father.

We also believe that William’s father paid maintenance for him but this was not a legal obligation.

“We have some information that a man by the name of Hugh Jones maybe William’s father but William was always told that Hugh was his uncle, even though Margaret had no siblings.“

If anyone has any information which may help please message the Bangor Aye or contact Jo via the Bangor History Facebook page.
