Bangor University have won the 2023 Varsity trophy, the 7th consecutive victory for Bangor since 2014.

 

The annual Varsity event, saw 44 sporting fixtures take place, with students from Aberystwyth University sports clubs compete against Bangor University sports clubs to be crowned Varsity 2023 champions, with this year’s event being held in Bangor for the first time since 2018, due to the pandemic.

Bangor University secured an empathic victory, winning 30-11. The win is Bangor’s 7th consecutive Varsity win in a row.

Bangor University’s Vice Chancellor, Proffesor Edmund Burke, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Proffesor Oliver Turnbull, and Pro Vice Chancellor, Proffesor Nicky Callow were all in attendance for the Final Fixture of Men’s Football in Nantporth, with around 1,400 in attendance.

Vice President for Sport for Bangor, Lewis Thompson, said: “The win highlighted the importance of sports in promoting a sense of community and pride among students.

“The Varsity competition is not just about winning but also about promoting healthy competition and sportsmanship between universities.

“Both universities displayed great respect for each other throughout the competition and the event was a celebration of the spirit of sportsmanship.”
