A Bangor mum is set to take on a marathon-length challenge along the North Wales coast to raise awareness of autism and support a leading UK charity.

Hannah Collins will complete a 26.2-mile route on Saturday, April 26, running from the Conwy Suspension Bridge to Doc Fictoria in Caernarfon.

The challenge is being undertaken in aid of the National Autistic Society, with Hannah also raising money through the sale of handmade crafts.

So far, she has raised more than £850 through a combination of sponsorship and craft sales ahead of the event.

Hannah is taking part in the “My Way” initiative linked to the London Marathon, which sees tens of thousands of people around the world complete the marathon distance at the same time as the main race in London. Participants can choose how they take on the 26.2 miles — whether running, walking, or breaking it into stages — within a 24-hour period.

She said she hopes the challenge will not only raise vital funds but also help increase awareness and understanding of autism.

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people. Since 1962, it has worked to transform lives, change attitudes and help create a society that works for autistic adults and children.

The charity provides a wide range of support, including residential and day services, specialist schools and diagnostic services. It also offers guidance and practical advice through its website, local branches and helplines, supporting tens of thousands of autistic people across the UK, as well as their families and carers.

Alongside direct support, the organisation campaigns to improve public understanding of autism and the challenges many autistic people face. It also works with governments, local authorities and businesses to promote more autism-friendly environments, improve services and influence policy and legislation.

She is also continuing to raise funds through the sale of handmade crafts in the lead-up to the marathon.

Hannah added that any support — whether through donations or sharing her story — would be greatly appreciated.
