Bangor City Stadium has announced it will launch a new football club, called CPD Bangor United FC.

The initiative will see CPD Penrhosgarnedd FC come under the stadium’s umbrella, transitioning into the newly formed CPD Bangor United FC. Which will field both junior teams and a new men’s team.

A statement from Bangor City Stadium read: “In our ongoing commitment to grassroots football and community support, Bangor City Stadium is excited to announce a significant development for the upcoming season.

“Starting next year, CPD Penrhosgarnedd will come under the stadium’s umbrella, transitioning into the newly formed CPD Bangor United FC. A new team will also be created to replace CPD Penrhosgarnedd, ensuring more opportunities for local youth to get involved in football, not fewer.

“This initiative will not affect CPD Bangor 1876, who will continue to play their fixtures at the stadium with our full financial backing. Additionally, the stadium will provide financial support to CPD Merched Bangor, Menai Bridge Tigers, and other Bangor grassroots teams for the next five years—a substantial investment in the future of our local kids and community sports.

“One of the primary reasons behind this decision is to protect the future of Penrhos youth players, ensuring they don’t have to leave the community to join senior teams elsewhere. Our priority is to nurture grassroots talent locally, providing a clear path from youth football to adult teams. We are committed to creating opportunities for these young players to stay within the Bangor football family, growing and thriving as part of their own community.

“As part of this exciting development, CPD Bangor United FC will unveil a new club emblem, blending the Bangor City Stadium logo with the original CPD Penrhosgarnedd icon. The new badge will reflect both histories while symbolising the unity of this partnership. The club will proudly carry the Welsh motto “Trwy Undod Mae Cryfder”—In Unity is Strength—representing the shared strength of the teams and the community.

“The establishment of CPD Bangor United FC will allow the stadium to generate additional revenue during Bangor 1876 away games while unlocking new funding streams. These resources will be reinvested into improving the stadium’s facilities, benefiting all teams and supporters, including Bangor 1876 FC.”

Nick Pritchard, Stadium Chairman, said: “Our goal is to get as many kids playing on the stadium pitch as possible, providing a pathway to our first teams. Who knows, we might just discover another superstar!”

“We are excited about this new chapter for football in Bangor and the positive impact it will have on the wider community. Our primary mission is to create opportunities for local youth to get outside, exercise, and thrive—not just in football but across a range of sports. We believe this is vital for mental health and the well-being of our community. Our focus is firmly on the future, helping this city move forward, respecting the past but not remaining in the past.”
