Encôr, a community Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass (SATB) choir in Bangor, has been awarded a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery Community fund.
Since establishing in December 2020, Encôr aims to bring people together improve mental and physical wellbeing. The choir does not require an audition and is open anyone over the age of 18, regardless of their musical experience.
Encôr aims to support everyone to reach their potential, as the choir strives to reach the best possible musical standard whilst lifting the spirits by singing feel-good songs. The choir also aims to help tackle loneliness and isolation in the community.
The grant will be used to expand the repertoire, widen access, increase membership and community involvement and continue to support choristers’ wellbeing for the next 12 months.
The funds will also go towards the activities associated with running of the choir, including the weekly rehearsals at Capel Berea in Bangor on a Wednesday 6.15-7pm ‘Cuppa & chat’ 7-8pm rehearsal for a year.
