Zip World are planning a new outdoor adventure tourism attraction at Zip World, Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda, known as the ‘Gravity Explorer’.
As the name suggests, ‘Gravity Explorer’, would be accelerated by gravity, reflecting the same principles as the zip lines and the quarry kart attractions.
The Gravity Explorer would be aimed at the existing non-participant visitors who visit Zip World Penrhyn Quarry along with their friends and family who are participating in the thrill-seeking zip lines or quarry karts. The Gravity Explorer would be suitable for children and individuals who may not have the confidence or desire to take on the zip lines.
The Gravity Explorer structure includes two spiralling towers and a steel framed track running between them and will be partly on the same level as the Zip World Adventure Terminal building, which is where the spiral section is located, and then run down to a lower level making use of the topography of the land.
Zip World won international acclaim when it opened Zip World Velocity at Penrhyn Quarry in March 2013. In 2014, Zip World Titan was launched at Llechwedd Slate Caverns near the historic slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Zip World Caverns was launched in 2015, and Zip World Fforest lies in a woodland setting in the Conwy Valley, close to the Snowdonia village of Betws y Coed launched in 2016. It hosts six forest adventures for the whole family, including the Fforest Coaster.
It is estimated that the proposed development will provide employment opportunities for an additional one five (FTE) members of staff and four part-time staff when fully operational. This is in addition to the existing staff currently based at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry. Wherever possible, the applicants would seek to employ people from the local area.
