The school kitchens at Ysgol Friars in Bangor will re-open on Monday 21st September, after two members of the canteen staff tested positive for Coronavirus.

The kitchens and canteen at the school were closed on 7 September, after the first staff member tested positive for the virus.

All kitchen staff were instructed to self-isolate and be tested for Coronavirus. A second staff member then returned a positive result, although the Track & Trace system indicated in both cases, that the virus was not contracted at the school. All the other staff members from the kitchens retuned negative results.

A deep-clean of the kitchens has been carried out, with pupils at the school bringing packed-lunches while the facility was closed.

Ysgol Friars Deputy Headteacher, David Healy, confirmed today the kitchens and canteen will reopen next Monday, serving hot food, including the full cooked dinner.
