Y Felinheli Sailing Club has been awarded the Royal Yachting Association’s ‘Club of the Year’ award for 2021.
The award is given annually to recognize the outstanding work of clubs across the UK.
The club was one of 10 finalists selected by the RYA Awards panel, and were voted champions in a public vote.
Earlier in 2020 the club scooped the ‘Heart of the Community’ award for outstanding contribution to the local community.
Commodore Noel Bristow reacted on the RYA’s website, saying: “Wow! I’m blown away! On behalf of all our members, who I know will be delighted, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has voted.
“We were really proud to be recognised in the ‘Heart of the Community’ category and now to be named RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year is- it’s fantastic!
“Thank you to everyone who voted and RYA Cymru Wales for all your support”.
Siân Gwenllian MS, who represents the area in the Welsh Parliament and hails from the village of y Felinheli also responded: “We are very fortunate of our sporting clubs across Arfon, which offer a wealth of invaluable opportunities for people of all ages.
“I know that club members are desperate for a return to normality after a challenging year, and it’s great to have some good news at the start of the year.
