Shôn Dale Jones presents The Duke

“In the spring of 2024 I sit at my desk waiting for an email that will tell me what I need to do to the script to get it onto the screen. I turn the radio on. I listen to a report about the refugee crisis. My mother calls. She tells me she’s broken The Duke. My mother, my film script and the refugee crisis all need my attention.”

Shôn Dale-Jones, the BBCaward-winning writer/performer performs the Fringe First award winner, The Duke.

Funny, poignant and playful, the one-man show weaves together the tragi-comic fate of a family heirloom – a porcelain figure of The Duke of Wellington, the quandary of a scriptwriter stretching his integrity and an unfolding disaster as thousands of children flee their homes. Blending fantasy and reality, this playful show gently challenges our priorities in a world full of crisis.

“…engaging and complex, existing somewhere between truth and fiction, drama and radio, fantasy and reality. Dale-Jones is a natural and immediately likeable storyteller” The List | 4 Star Review

Guy Davis

“… one of the most gifted acoustic musicians on the planet” Blues Blast Magazine.

Multi instrumentalist Guy Davis is a two-time, back-to-back Grammy nominee for Best Traditional Blues, musician, actor, author, songwriter, so much more than ‘just a bluesman’, a troubadour of the folk tradition, and a master of his craft.

Guy uses a blend of Roots, Blues, Folk, Rock, Rap, Spoken Word, and World Music to comment on and address the frustrations of social injustice, touching on historical events, and common life struggles.

Equally at ease with six or twelve string guitar, five string banjo, harmonica, and even the didgeridoo, Guy’s work has seen him perform alongside Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen, Dr John, Taj Mahal and Joss Stone, opening for Chuck Berry, Joan Armatrading, and BB King, and perform all over the globe. Adventures that once saw him chased out of Red Square in Moscow for trying to sing, performing in the then Soviet occupied East Berlin, and in front of an iceberg in Greenland!

His shows feature a mixture of his own original material alongside classic cover songs from such luminaries as Muddy Water, Howlin’ Wolf, and Bob Dylan.

Guy is great! The real-deal! Interestingly, he is the son of American actors and civil-rights activists, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, and is also an actor himself having played the lead-role in Beat Street (1984), which almost single-handedly introduced Europe to break-dancing and hip-hop.

“…a superb songwriter whose lyrics evoke the storytelling poetic tradition of the blues” The Country Blues Magazine
