More stormy weather is expected on Saturday with heavy rain and strong to gale force winds forecast.
Having just recovered from storm Ophelia, a new weather system is building over the Atlantic and heading towards Britain. The storm, which could bring gusts of between 50-70mph, is now officially being called ‘Strom Brian’.
While Storm Brian is not expected to be as ferocious as ex-Ophelia, and we are unlikely to see the magnificent red sun again, the Met Office have issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning.
04:00 on Saturday until 23:59 on Saturday
The chief forecasters assessment reads: “An intense low pressure system is expected to bring a swathe of strong south-westerly winds over southern areas early on Saturday, these steadily transferring east through the morning and early afternoon, becoming westerly and eventually north-westerly later whilst also slowly easing. Gusts exceeding 50 mph are expected widely within the warning area, with gusts of around 70 mph along exposed coastal areas. These are expected to coincide with high tides, leading to locally dangerous conditions.”
Winds are forecast to slowly ease on Sunday with a mix of sunshine and showers. Further rain is expected on Monday.
