Mary Hofman (vioin) and Richard Ormrod (piano) perform music by Rhian Samuel, Hilary Tann, Sarah Lianne Lewis, Steph Power and Eleanor Alberga. This live concert marks the launch of Tŷ Cerdd Records CD Unbroken Threads, which will feature all the pieces that will be performed by the duo in their recital.

Richard Ormrod and Mary Hofman

Richard Ormrod and Mary Hofman have performed duos together for ten years in venues across the UK as well as touring the Mediterranean, Malaysia and Cambodia. They are Selected Artists with Making Music 2020-2022 and were nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society award for their project Beethoven in Wales. When not making music, they love to spend their time exploring the mountains around their home in north Wales with their daughters.

Richard is also an acclaimed soloist. He has twice performed concertos with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by David Parry at the Barbican centre, London; toured the Pacific rim as concerto soloist with the Philharmonia Virtuosi; made four international tours with the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and performed with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, broadcast live to 38 countries. His CD recording of Schubert and Schumann has recently been released with Austrian Gramophone and he has just completed a recording on a Clavicytherium made by Sir Curtis Price.He was a semi-finalist in the Leeds International Piano Competition at the age of 19 and went on to win prizes at other international competitions including the Rubenstein and Tchaikovsky competitions. Richard serves on the piano faculty at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Mary pursues a varied career as an orchestral and chamber musician and teacher. She has worked as guest leader of the Edinburgh Quartet, as well as performing with the Endellion quartet and plays regularly with Ensemble Cymru. She has worked with most of Britain’s leading chamber orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata and Britten Sinfonia as well as period orchestras OAE and ORR. Mary also teaches violin at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music and Bangor University.

Pre-concert talk – 6.30pm

Ahead of the concert, Dr Rhiannon Mathias of Bangor University’s Music Department will be joined for a pre-concert talk (18:30) by Deborah Keyser, Director of Tŷ Cerdd, and composers Rhian Samuel, Hilary Tann, Sarah Lianne Lewis and Steph Power. Your concert ticket will allow entry to the pre-concert talk.

Vertical Dance Kate Lawrence and Pontio presents Lunch on the Fly

Monday 5 September

This is a fun session in which you can have a go at vertical dance. Starting with an easy warm up, you will then try to stand on and jump off a vertical floor using waist harnesses. You will be guided through some simple positions, and then you will fly!

Wear comfortable clothing with snug layers around waist and top of legs.

Age: 16+
