Over £2,000 has been raised towards Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Children’s Ward with the help of Wales rugby star Dan Biggar. The generous amount was raised at a recent charity evening at the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon.

The special night, organised by the Events Room in support of the North Wales NHS Charity Awyr Las, was hosted by former Wales International Rupert Moon.

Dan, who has played 60 games for Wales and was the 2015 winner of the BBC Cymru Sports Personality of the Year Award, said he was delighted to attend the event and help raise funds towards the Children’s Ward.

The Wales fly-half treated guests to a special Q&A session where he spoke of his most memorable moments during his career.

Dan Biggar said: “I was thrilled to be invited up to North Wales to support the Children’s Ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

“It was a fantastic night and I’m glad to have been part of raising funds for such a worthy cause.”

The donations, which were raised through a raffle and silent auction, will help towards new equipment on the ward.

Kirsty Thomson, Head of Fundraising at Awyr Las, said the donations will help ‘enhance the care that young patients receive’ on the Children’s Ward.

She said: “We’re really grateful to the Events Room for organising such an amazing event in aid of Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Children’s Ward.

“The money raised from the evening will help support new equipment and facilities that the nursing team on the ward have specified they want so they can enhance the care young patients receive.

“We can’t thank Dan enough for giving his time to help raise money to support our young patients, and everyone there who gave so generously on the night.”

Staff from the Children’s Ward were also invited to the event and were delighted to have the opportunity to meet the rugby star.

Nerys Pritchard, Ward Manager of the Children’s Ward, said: “We wish to thank everyone who attended this event and helped raise such a fantastic amount of money for our ward.

“These donations will help us buy new equipment that will really benefit the patients in our hospital.

“It was an amazing evening and we’d like to especially thank Dan for his support and making the night extra special for us.”
