As of Friday, 29 January, the number of current Covid positive cases related to Bangor University is two students in Halls, five in the wider community of Bangor and one student not currently located in the University or community in Bangor or Wrexham.

A statement on the Bangor University website said: “The University has put in place extensive measures to protect both staff and students. Teaching has been redesigned to provide a blended approach with online learning and in person face to face where it is safe to do so. The campus itself has undergone extensive adaptations to enable students to study in a Covid secure environment.

“Bangor University has put in place plans for a staggered approach to starting blended learning. Attendance for students, whose safety and wellbeing is our top priority, will not be mandatory until Monday 8 February at the earliest, and all lectures will be online with some other learning activities (e.g. seminars, laboratory practicals) continuing on-campus, as part of the University’s blended learning delivery. For the period 8-22 February, students can access their individual timetables. How the teaching is delivered will reflect the nature of their course.

“Although our teaching activity is Covid-secure, the University completely understands that some students are anxious about travelling to Bangor and attending in-person activity.

“Students who have returned to their term time address can access the facilities and services that support their learning and on-campus experience, and the University does not want to prevent this.

“Students who opt not to return immediately will be able to access on-campus activities online.

“The University will review the situation frequently, based on a dynamic assessment of risk and in light of Government advice, and will give students two weeks’ notice of any changes.

“Students and staff can access symptomatic and asymptomatic tests on Campus.

“Travel for educational purposes is permitted by the Welsh and UK Governments.

“Our overriding priority is the safety of the community, our students and our staff.”
