Emergency services and the bomb disposal squad were called in to deal with an unexploded mortar shell found on Newborough Beach on Anglesey on Saturday 5 June.
The unexploded rusty shell was found on the shoreline by sharp eyed walkers and emergency services were called just after 6am. Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team, North Wales Police and the Royal Logistics Corp Bomb Squad were called to deal with the incident.
A area was sealed off from the public and a controlled explosion was carried out by the bomb squad.
A statement from Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Tasked to assist North Wales Police and EOD at Newborough Beach to unexploded shell.
“Shell found and dealt with safely. Bangor CRT back at station 12:00 hrs.
“If you find something suspicious on the beach, leave it alone, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
According to the Anglesey History social media account there was a decoy air strip in the area during WWII, built in November 1941 in the forest opposite Llanddwyn Island. Earlier in the war the area was used for mortar and grenade training.
