Tributes have been paid to inspirational Bangor mum of three, Melanie Jones, 34, whose funeral takes place today, Saturday 24th February.

Mel was diagnosed with bowel cancer and underwent major bowel surgery, followed by six months of chemotherapy. In July last year Mel received the awful news that the cancer had spread to her liver, pancreas and lymph nodes and she had to go through further chemotherapy treatments. Sadly after scan results in late November, she was given heartbreaking news that she was terminally ill with only months to live.

In August Mel was given the life-enhancing drug Cetuximab, which Irfon Williams successfully campaigned to have made available in Wales.

Before Christmas a just giving page was set up and a number of community events took place, raising over £8,000, which allowed Mel and her family move into a new house, enabling them to spend Christmas together.

A message on the Bangor Community Group page last night read: “It is with great sadness that tomorrow (Saturday) is the funeral of Melanie, a Bangor girl through and through who inspired and brought our community and wider a field together where we were fortunate to be able to support them at Christmas time … thinking of your husband, children, mam dad sister family, extended family and friends at this sad time xxx On behalf of Bangor Community Group x”

The funeral takes place today, Saturday 24th February at 10.30am at Bangor Crematorium, followed at The Victoria Hotel, Menai Bridge. All those that would like to celebrate Mel’s life are welcome.
