The first official trailer for HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ – which filmed scenes at Penrhyn Castle in Bangor – has been released, clocking an amazing 1.5 million views in less than 24hrs.

Watchmen is based on the graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC. From Damon Lindelof and set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Filming took place at Penrhyn Castle for a month last September, when the house and gardens were transformed into a ‘major film set’ for the first time.

The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

The National Trust described the filming at as “an amazing opportunity for Penrhyn Castle and Garden to play its part in an exciting and new experience, and to highlight our places and work to a worldwide audience.”

Watchmen will premiere on HBO later this year. Penrhyn Castle can be seen at 47 seconds into the trailer!
